10 Games to Play With Suzuki Review Chips

1. Suzuki Fishing Review

Use a magnetic fishing pole to “catch” a chip.

  • Student plays the piece listed on the chip


2. Play & Keep

Student picks a chip:

  • Play the piece correctly = keep the chip

  • Missed spots = chip goes back


3. Timed Review Challenge

Set a timer (1–3 minutes).

  • How many pieces can the student successfully start or play before time runs out?

Great for quick end-of-lesson reviews.


4. Dice Decision

Roll a die after picking a chip:

  • 1–2: Play the opening

  • 3–4: Play a favorite section

  • 5–6: Teacher chooses the challenge (slow tempo, rhythms only, pizzicato, etc.)


5. Character Performance

Pick a chip and play the piece:

  • Like a sleepy turtle

  • Like a brave hero

  • Like a robot

Encourages expression, dynamics, and tone control.


6. Target Review

Lay chips face down.

  • Teacher calls out a piece

  • Student flips chips until they find it, then plays it


7. Practice Reward Pull

After focused practice, student pulls one review chip from a bag as a bonus piece to play for fun.


8. Pass the Chip (Group Lessons)

  • Students sit in a circle and pass a chip around.

  • When the teacher says “Play!” the student holding the chip plays the piece listed.

  • Great for group lessons, keeping everyone alert, and quick-fire review.


9. Review Ladder

Start with an easy review piece.

  • Each successful performance moves the student “up the ladder” to the next chip


10. Composer Challenge

  • Student pulls a chip and must name the composer of the piece to keep the chip.

  • If they answer correctly, they get to keep it; if not, the chip goes back.
